William Boxall Autograph Letter Signed SOLD

ALS of Victorian painter and museum director William Boxall who gained success in the lucrative genre of portraiture and counted William Wordsworth and Edwin Landseer amongst his friends.  In 1866 Boxall was appointed the director of the National Gallery at which point he virtually gave up painting

The letter is dated Jan 21st 1870 and reads in full:

"Dear Madam, It will give me very great pleasure to receive you here tomorrow at the hour you have proposed 1/4 past 2 o'clock.  I shall be obliged to you if you will be as punctual as you can as I have an engagement at the Gallery at three...."
