Duke of Wellington Autograph Signed Letter - a letter hand written and signed by Arthur Wellesley the 1st Duke of Wellington who famously defeated Napoleon at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815.  The two page letter is dated 4 January 1827 and is addressed to the Marquess of Tweeddale.  Wellington states that he has received his correspondent's letter and would have answered earlier if he "had not been certain that you could have seen from what I was hoping... that there was no chance of the war extending beyond these operations for which provision has already been made."  The daughter of the Marquess of Tweeddale married Wellington's eldest son

Signed letter measures 7.25 x 4.25 inches. With blank integral leaf. Some signs of former mounting
